Having a deep and meaningful relationship in our lives is something most of us aspire to. One only has to look at our literature, art and popular culture to see how strongly we are drawn to and moved by, the experience of a deep enduring love with an other.
We approach relationship, often believing that all we need to do is find the right person, settle down together and then a life of eternal happiness, security and harmony is guaranteed. It is not until this dream begins to shatter, perhaps in conflict, dullness or deceit, that we begin to realize that intimate relationship requires much more work, awareness and understanding than we had first envisaged. Despite our best intentions we painfully discover that our own deeply held insecurities, fears and wounds are brought to the surface in relationship and find ourselves triggered into highly reactive and destructive behaviour. Faced with feelings and conflicts that are difficult to understand or resolve, our lack of effective knowledge and skills stands in the way of us creating the love we so want.
To have successful, enduring and alive relationships we need to bring understanding and healing to the wounded parts of us, that often sabotage relationships, and learn skills and a map to navigate the complex territory it entails. This is the work of Creating Love workshops. "In truth few of us have received the right kind of support, guidance and training to equip ourselves for the complex art of intimate relationship." In our work we first recognize that to be able to have healthy sustained relationships we need to build a healthy and integrated sense of self. In this work we learn to face our own wounds and fears with a great deal of compassion and acceptance. Through this process of knowing and accepting ourselves we begin to break free of deeply held limiting beliefs. We also provide theoretical understanding and teaching of where relationships are likely to go wrong and provide tools and resources to meet these inevitable challenges skillfully. The workshops are both experiential and educational in their approach. We recognize that theory alone won't resolve our relationship issues. We work on creating a very safe and accepting environment in which to explore and transform our deep wounds and negative conditioning. Using guided meditations, experiential exercises, sharing and self inquiry the work gradually leads us to a place of deep self acceptance and gives us a greater ability to have intimacy and love with another.
